Dr Russell John Diefenbach
Conjoint Senior Lecturer
C24 - Westmead Hospital
Dr Russell Diefenbach is an internationally recognized leader in the field of herpes viral transport and assembly
The aim of his recent work has been to determine the protein-protein interactions between molecular motors and structural viral proteins. He has also developed a research program based on elucidating the protein-protein interactions involved in HSV assembly. His work has the overall aim of elucidating novel targets for antivirals and in the design of a minimal non-replicating viral construct which can be used for gene therapy to introduce foreign DNA into human nerves to correct genetic abnormalities. His work has made significant contributions to the field of molecular motors and viral transport using a novel combination of interdisciplinary approaches.
