Biographical details

A/Prof Aaron Schindeler completed his PhD training in 2003 at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. His postdoctoral research was in orthopaedic cell tracking and NF1 biology.

He currently runs a group at the Kids Research Institute at the Children's Hospital at Westmead focusing on Orthopaedic Research. He is the Director of Laboratory Research at the newly formed Centre for Children's Bone & Musculoskeletal Health.

Research interests

A/Prof Schindeler runs a multidisciplinary research team involving individuals with science, medical science, clinical, allied health, veterinary, and biomedical engineering backgrounds. This major research areas include:

- Musculoskeletal manifestations of Neurofibromatosis and their treatment

- The basic biology of bone healing and modulation by pharmaceutical agents

- Biomaterials, scaffolds, injectables, and biologicals for bone tissue engineering

- CRISPR gene editing for bone model development and gene therapy

- Treatment of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease)
