Biographical details

Dr Zask is currently a program coordinator, including research and evaluation, in the Northern NSW local health district’s health promotion unit.He isaffiliated with the North Coast University Centre of Rural Health and holds conjoint academic appointment in both Sydney and Southern Cross Universities. Despite working in a regional health promotion Unit, he hasforged links and collaborated on obesity prevention related projects with colleagues in Deakin, Wollongong and Sydney Universities and the NSW Physical Activity and Nutrition Obesity Research Group (PANORG).

Since 2006 he has been the chief investigator and coordinator of a number of research projects in preschools and primary schools evaluating childhood obesity prevention programs, including the only published long term (4 years) longitudinal study tracking movement skills in early childhood. Despite health promotion projects evaluation being part of Dr Zask's core work and requiring no external funding, he has been proactive and attracted $675,550 of external grant money to conduct further research on a number of local projects, $385,995 of these funds were for childhood obesity prevention research.

Dr Zask'srole has always been to support the local health promotion unit by rigorously evaluating programs conducted by its staff, so he has published papers mainly when concluding such evaluations. He has published 21 papers in peer reviewed journals, out of which, 12 papers related to childhood obesity prevention. Additionally, he has presented research findings in a number of national and international conferences.
