Biographical details
Angela is a Nephrologist and Transplant Physician, having trained in England, Scotland and Australia. She studied Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Sydney, and was awarded a PhD for her thesis “Immunosuppression and malignancy in End Stage Kidney Disease” in 2006. She now splits her time working as a Staff Specialist in Renal Medicine and transplantation at Westmead Hospital and as an Associate Professor in Clinical Epidemiology in the Sydney School of Public Health. She is the chair of the Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant registry (ANZDATA) Cancer working group and chair elect of the New South Wales Transplant Advisory Committee. She serves on the Scientific Program and Education Committee (SPEC) of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology, and is deputy coordinating editor of the Cochrane Renal Group, part of the Cochrane Collaboration
Research interests
Angela’s areas of research interest include the critical exploration of randomized trial methodology, the evaluation of diagnostic tests in clinical practice, the application of advanced statistical concepts in meta-analysis, the manipulation and analysis of large datasets, the methods and application of linkage of large national databases, and design and interpretation of cohort studies.
Her research themes include the interaction of chronic diseases, specifically kidney disease, cancer and cardiovascular disease
Teaching areas
Angela coordinates several units in the Clinical Epidemiology degree program, including literature searching (CEPI5102), advanced systematic reviews (CEPI5204) and doing a systematic review (CEPI5204) and writing and reviewing medical papers (CEPI5214). She also contributes to evidence based medicine teaching and the population health components of the Graduate Medical Program

Global. (Cochrane Collaboration) Angela is the deputy co-ordinating editor of the Cochrane Renal Group, a review group of the Cochrane Collabroation (www.cochrane-renal.org/ and www.cochrane.org/).
Belgium. (European Renal Association) Angela provides training to ERA methods support team fellows, and collaborates on European Renal Best Practice Guidelines (see www.european-renal-best-practice.org/).
