Research interests

My principal area of research has been elucidating and eradicating bacterial biofilms. Specifically:

i) Elucidating the role of bacterial extracellular molecules in biofilm formation and infection.

ii) Development of a novel therapeutic strategy to disrupt and kill biofilms and promote host cell growth.

iii) Translating fundamental research into a clinical trial for treating diabetic wound infection.

Teaching and supervision

To teach fundamentals of bacterial biofilms. Mechanism of biofilm formation, antibiotic resistance in bacteria and effect of bacterial virulence factors on host cells and tissue.

Currently I am actively involved in both lecture and practical class for the Infection and Immunity postgraduate program:Advanced Medical Bacteriology (INIM5011)andINIM5012on “bacterial biofilm and its implications for infection control”. I am also involved in demonstrating to 1styear Medical and Dental students “Medical and Dental Microbiology: It’s a small world”.

Developing Novel therapautic stratergy to eradicate clinically important bacterial infection.

Efficiency of bacteriophages in killing drug resistant P. aeruginosa in biofilms.

Synthesizing novel nanoparticles to destroy multi drug resistant A. baumannii.

Effect of nitric oxide combination therapy on bioiflms

Effect of bacterial virulence factors on human epithelial cells
