Biographical details

Prof Winlaw is a clinician and researcher. He completed his MD at St Vincent's Hospital and did further training in transplantation and paediatric cardiac surgery. He now leads this service at The Children's Hospital at Westmead and is Head of the Heart Centre for Children.

He has research, clinical and administrative committments. He is a member of the Medical Services Advisory Committee, Department of Health and Aging, Australian Government. A/Prof Winlaw is an Honorary Faculty member at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.

Research interests

Pediatric Cardiac Surgery

Genetics of congenital heart disease. Low cardiac output state after cardiac surgery. Brain outcomes after cardiac surgery in children. Human factors in cardiac surgery.

Teaching and supervision

Prof Winlaw is involved in post graduate teaching through supervision of PhD students and medical students at all stages of their course.
