Dr Elena Shklovskaya

Biographical details

Dr Shklovskaya completed her MD and PhD degrees in Russia. Together with internationally recognised Hematology Research Team in the University Hospital Basel in Switzerland, she studied mechanisms of bone marrow failure and the hematopoietic and immune recovery after stem cell transplantation for malignancy. In 2002, she joined T Cell Biology Program at Centenary Institute where she leads a small team focussed on understanding immune responses in cancer and improving cancer outcomes.

Research interests

Dr Shklovskaya is interested in immune regulation in health and disease, in particular in cancer. She is an expert in the development and use of animal models to study immune regulation and she designed and created numerous animal models to address multiple roles of antigen-presenting cells in immune regulation and more recently, new models to study immune cell cooperation in cancer. These models are currently being applied to study the effects of immune checkpoint inhibitors, a novel group of drugs recently introduced into clinical practice.
