Research interests

Skin development - Morphogenesis of hair follicles, with specific focus on signaling factors; Cell interactions and cell fate pathways in foetal skin that adumbrate morphogenesis and pattern; Inductive tissue interactions including hair follicle induction.

Carcinogenesis – Early transformation events in the appearance of skin neoplasms, particularly melanoma; Roles of tyrosine kinases and cell signaling; EM radiation and activation of signal transduction.

Wound healing - New biomaterials for enhancing epithelial growth and repair; Cultured skin as grafts for burn victims, and as sources of cytokines and growth factors.

Gene therapy - Gene manipulation for therapeutic models; Skin grafts containing engineered cells and microencapsulation of engineered cells to deliver recombinant proteins (insulin, antifungal agents, somatotropin) in vivo.
