He is now a Staff Specialist in Intensive Care Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital.

Research interests

  • Outcomes in medical education and medical simulation, especially in-situ simulation
  • Benefits of technology in education: website design, e-learning packages, videos, podcasts, vodcasts
  • Quality and safety in healthcare
  • Airway management in Critical Care
  • Improving the consent rate in organ and tissue donation

Teaching and supervision

Jonathan has a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and is a trained simulation instructor. He is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney, and regularly teaches medical students.

He co-coordinates the education program at the Royal North Shore Hospital Intensive Care Unit and runs the in-situ simulation program. He has set up in-situ simulation programs in three hospitals to date. His special interests include airway management and human factors training. He runs courses addressing both these interests for ICU and ED trainees.

Current projects

  • Royal North Shore Hospital ICU in-situ simulation program
  • Royal North Shore Hospital ICU e-learning program
  • Critical Care Airway Management Course
  • Simulated Learning in Intensive Care Emergencies Course
  • Organ and Tissue Donation Designated Requester Simulation Program
  • Clinical Council member at the Clinical Excellence Commission
  • Steering committee In Safe Handsprogram
  • Intensive Care Coordination and Monitoring Unit Clinical Best Practice Working Group

Associations

Jonathan is a Council member at the Clinical Excellence Commission and is part of the Clinical Best Practice Working Group at the Agency for Clinical Innovation’s Intensive Care Coordination and Monitoring Unit.
