Research interests

Janelle is an Aboriginal health academic. Her career as a health and physical education teacher and senior education officer gives her to bring to research a strong background in education, mentoring and building capacity particularly with Aboriginal people. She has recruited and mentored, or acted as an associate supervisor for Aboriginal students on undergraduate cadetship, honours, masters and PhD programs. Janelle’s initial research career was at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research where she ensured Aboriginal health research was conducted in an appropriate manner and played a key role in their first Aboriginal cancer study. Her current areas of research are in tobacco control and improving health service systems to ensure they are accessible to Aboriginal people and delivering high quality effective services.
