Professor Kazuaki Negishi

Kaz is Professor of Medicine, and Head of Discipline of Medicine at Sydney Medical School Nepean, in Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. He is a current National Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellow and Adjunct Professor at the University of Tasmania. Clinically, he is a Board-Certified Cardiologist in Japan and Australia, currently practicing at Nepean Hospital, NSW. He had his Cardiology training and PhD in Japan. He spent three years in Cleveland Clinic, OH, USA to peruse his academic interest before he came to Australia. He worked at Menzies Institute for Medical Research, University of Tasmania as Senior Research Fellow and led the Echo lab at Royal Hobart Hospital as a practicing cardiologist.

To date, he has a total of >113 peer-reviewed research publications in international journals (Google H-index 28, >2348 citations) and has received funding from organisations such as National Heart Foundation and NHMRC.He is editorial board members of JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging, Journal of American Society of Echocardiography, and PLOS One.

He holds Fellowship recognitions from multiple international cardiac societies (FACC, FESC, FAHA, FASE, and FCSANZ) and has been an invited speaker at many international conference including ESC Congress (2015) Japanese College of Cardiology (2015), Echo Asia (2018), Mayo & Columbia Uni Echo/Imaging New York State-of-the -Art (2019). He also regularly provides lectures and hands-on sessions to fellows/ Advanced trainees/ registrars at Imaging Australis and Advanced Echo Symposium. He has active research collaborations within Australia, USA (including NASA), and Japan.

Kaz's research team in the University of Sydney currently consists of 1 Senior Research Fellow, 2 Post-Doctoral fellows, and opens for opportunities for PhD, Masters, Honours students. He is also supervising for 2 PhD students at Menzies Institute for Medical Research, University of Tasmania, TAS, Australia and 1 PhD student in Gunma University, Japan. Kaz enjoys learning and indeed he himself is currently studying his Masters (Executive MSc in Health Economics, Outcomes and Management in Cardiovascular Sciences) at London School of Economics and Policy.
