Research interests

I conduct clinical research into the efficacy and neurobehavioural basis of treatments for substance use and associated comorbidities (psychiatric: suicide risk, depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances and physiological: liver disease). Areas include: randomised controlled trials; pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy of substance use and mental health.

Teaching and supervision

Lecture: Research Inquiry in the Masters of Neuroscience program for Brain and Mind Research Institute since 2012-present; Anti-craving Agents for Alcohol Dependence 2007-2010, 2014, Neurobiology of Addiction. ITAS tutor for Public Health.

Current projects

Exploring the neurobehavioural basis of the GABAb agonist, baclofen, in the treatment of alcohol dependence and comorbid anxiety; Treatment for alcoholic liver disease; Pharmacogenetics of alcohol pharmacotherapy; Relationship between alcohol dependence and sleep disturbances; Stepped-care model of treatment for alcohol dependence and comorbid depressiona and/or anxiety; Suicidal behaviour and alcohol use disorders.
