Biographical details

Dr Kristen Bubb is a senior Research Fellow at the Kolling Institute of Medical Research and Lecturer at the University of Sydney. Her primary research focus is cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology and pharmacology. After completing her PhD at Monash University, Melbourne, in 2010, she moved to London and was awarded a British Pharmacological Society International Fellowship to work on the role of the TRPV1 receptor in vascular function at the William Harvey Research Institute. During that time, she was also part of the team headed by Prof Amrita Ahluwalia, investigating the blood pressure lowering effect of dietary nitrate in beetroot juice, which received substantial media attention. She then moved to the William Harvey Heart Centre to work on several projects focussing on natriuretic peptides and their effects via both cyclic GMP-dependent and -independent mechanisms, with applications for pulmonary hypertension and angiogenesis. She was recruited to the Kolling Institute of Medical Research at the end of 2015 to co-lead the Oxidative Signalling group with Prof Gemma Figtree and manages multiple projects aimed at understanding the post-translational oxidative modifications that result in cardiac and vascular dysfunction. She is also leading research investogating novel therapeutics for pulmonary hypertension and peripheral vascular disease. Kristen has recently been appointed the role of Lead for the University of Sydney Cardiovascular InititativeDrug Discovery Pipeline.
