Biographical details

A/Prof. Li Ming Wen, MD, MMed, PhD, has extensive research experience in the fields of medicine, social science and public health with over 70 peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals including BMJ and JAMA Paediatrics. He is a Research and Evaluation Manager at Health Promotion Service, South Western Sydney & Sydney Local Health Districts. His current research interests are in childhood obesity, physical activity, active transport, sexual health and tobacco control with specific expertise in the evaluation of health promotion initiatives. A highlight of his role in health promotion evaluation included receiving the Better Health Good Health Care Baxter Award for Innovative Research in 2000.

A/Prof Wen is Principal Investigator (PI) of a NHMRC-funded Healthy Beginnings Trial (NHMRC #393112 in 2008-10, NHMRC#1003780 in 2011-14), which is a 6-year RCT of a home-based intervention designed to reduce family and behavioural risk factors for childhood overweight and obesity for first-time mothers in some of the most socially and economically disadvantaged areas of Sydney. A/Prof Wen was an invited Lead Guest Editorfor theJournal of Environmental and Public Health on the Special issue on The effect of active transport, transport systems and urban design on environmental and population health, which has been published(http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jeph/si/891758/).

A/Prof Wen is currently an Associate Supervisor advising and supporting two PhD candidates who are undertaking studies on the Healthy Beginnings Trial phase 1 and 2.
