Biographical details

Maree leads a program of research at The George Institute for Global Health focusing on developing simple, cost effective strategies (which can be integrated with other secondary prevention strategies) to prevent depression and significantly improve the outcome for people with cardiovascular disease. She has a particular interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. This is in concordance with her current National Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellowship (Level 2) on Improving the identification and management of depression in people with cardiovascular disease, our APHCRI centre of research excellence grant, and our NHMRC program and capacity building grants.

Research interests

Maree's longstanding area of interest is in health outcomes research, in particular, psychological problems in people with physical illness. Her publications are predominantly on mood and quality of life following stroke.

In addition she co-ordinates and lectures for the Mental Disorders in a Global Context block course for the Masters of International Public Health.
