Biographical details

Mark is the current Associate Dean and Head of School at the School of Rural Health. He is a practicing physician in the field of Rheumatology, with practices in Dubbo, Gloucester and Orange. He has been teaching University of Sydney medical students since 2008, with his previous appointment of Associate Professor at Northern Clinical School from 2010-2013, and a Clinical Senior Lecturer there from 2008. At Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, Mark held the positions of Visiting Medical Officer (1996-2013) and Clinical Assistant (1990-1996). He undertook his training in Rheumatology at Royal North Shore Hospital and at Guy’s Hospital in London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (1989) and received his MBBS from the University of Sydney (1983). He serves as a reviewer for the journals: Clinical Rheumatology; and International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases. Mark is currently completing a PhD in Bioethics from the Centre for Values, Ethics and the Law in Medicine (VELiM), having previously completed a Masters in Bioethics there in 2012.

Research interests

Bioethics, inflammatory arthritis, medical education and the nature of doctor-patient interactions.

Teaching and supervision

Internal medicine; clinical rheumatology; undergrad and postgrad medical education.
