Research interests

Dr Muller's research interests encompass the fields of oxidative stress, cellular senescence and telomere biology and their roles in disease, ageing and longevity. A particular focus is on bacterial redox active toxins as inducers of cellular senescence and modifiers of the wound repair response, particularly in relation to burn wounds and chronic lung diseases. Recent work by Dr Muller has demonstrated the effectiveness of polyphenol antioxidants in inhibiting premature senescence but has also highlighted a darker side to these compounds.
