We have identified immunodominant CD4 T cell epitopes in HSV-2 glycoprotein D (gD). Those peptides are thought to be effective on a broad range of MHC class II types and cross-reactive between HSV-1 and HSV-2. Recently, immunodominant CD8 T cell epitopes of HSV-2 have been identified in our lab. Our immunodominant peptides for CD4 and CD8 T cells are conjugated to lipid adjuvant to enhance the immunogenicity. The action mechanism of those vaccine candidate peptides are investigated in the interaction of dendritic cells, natural killer cells, and T cells in an attempt to improve the current vaccine candidates.
