Research interests

My current research interests are focused on investigating the immediate blood mediated inflammatory response (IBMIR) in allogeneic and xenogeneic large animal models of intraportal islet transplantation. IBMIR is characterised by the rapid activation and binding of platelets to the transplanted islets, along with the activation of the complement and coagulation cascade. Determining the timing of these inflammatory and thrombotic events in vivo, will help to elucidate the mechanisms behind IBMIR, and indicate pathways for targeting treatments to abrogate this reaction. While IBMIR is of major interest in these projects, long-term function is also a target.
