I underwent undergraduate and early postgraduate medical training at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Following specialist training in HIV medicine and Sexual Health, I ran a large HIV unit in London, before moving back to Scotland. Since arrival in 2001, I have been Course Coordinator and initiated a major redevelopment & expansion of the University of Sydney Masters of Medicine (STD/HIV) Program.

I have broad research interests in Sexual Health, including clinical aspects of HIV, the diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections and vulnerable populations. My doctorate was in the molecular epidemiology of Human Papillomaviruses. This remains my principle research focus, particularly when infection is associated with the development of cancers in immunosuppressed individuals.

My research output includes over 30 peer reviewed articles, nine letters, six review articles, two books, two book chapters, and over 60 presentations at local and international meetings. I currently have a number of ongoing projects including in areas as diverse as anal cancer, sex workers and sexual health teaching.

I serve on a number of University and professional committees, as well as being a Joint Editor of “Sexual Health” – a leading, peer-reviewed journal in the field. I have also conducted professional examinations and organized conferences. [Hide detail]
