Biographical details

Professor Ross Bailie is the Director of the University Centre for Rural Health in Lismore, and is responsible for the Centre’s strategic and operational leadership. Previously he was Professor of Public Health, and Scientific Director, for the Centre for Primary Health Care Systems at the Menzies School of Health Research. He has qualifications in medicine, general practice, maternal and child health, and public health, and has worked in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

Ross Bailie has been an investigator on more than 40 funded research grants during the past ten years, 25 as lead investigator. A general goal of his research has been to increase availability of information for policy and service planning for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

He has been the recipient of an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship, a National Health and Medical Research Council Senior Research Fellowship, and an Australasian Evaluation Society Award for Excellence in Indigenous Evaluation.

In his professional role Ross aims to ensure that communities and health services benefit from high quality research and evaluation, with an emphasis on equity and population health impact.
