Biographical details

Dr Saad's research interest is in progressive renal disease and metabolic disease. She has publishedextensively in the area.She has successfully supervised 7 PhDs, 6 MSc, 1 Honours, and 2 summer students to completion and is currently supervising3 PhD students affiliated with the University of Sydney and1 PhD students affiliated with the University of Technology Sydney. She has expertise in diabetic kidney disease, fibrosis, oxidative stress, mitochondrial function and mitochondrial DNA quantitation. Her current work examines the effect of maternal influences including obesity and smoking on offspring predisposition to kidney disease, epigenetic regulation in disease development and novel therapies for glycaemic control and renal fibrosis.

Research interests

My primary research focus is in the area of metabolic disease andmicrovascular/ macrovascular complications of diabetes, including nephropathy and endothelial dysfunction and maternal programming and its effect on offspring predisposition to chronic kidney disease.

Teaching and supervision

Dr Saad has successfully supervised7 PhD students, 6 Master, 1 honours and 2 summer studentsto competion. All of whom have had successful career post-graduation. She is currently supervising 4 PhD students and one Medical student under the New MD program. She is seeking 2 new students to join her team in 2017.

Dr Saad is associated to Prof Carol Pollock and is a long term collaborator of Dr Hui Chen (University of Technology Sydney) and Prof Ewa Goldys (Macquarie University). She also has multiple international and national collaborators. She has strong collaborations with Biotech and pharmaceutical companies.
