Professor Sitharthan is a Honorary Professor who trained in Australia at the University of Sydney (postgraduate training in Clinical Psychology and a Ph.D. in Psychology). He is a registered Clinical Psychologist and holds membership in the following associations: American Psychological Association, Division of Clinical Psychology - American Psychological Association, Australian Psychological Society, College of Clinical Psychologists - Australian Psychological Society, and American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counsellors and Therapists.

Since, 1985, he has held several senior clinical, research, administrative, and academic positions. Previously, he was a Senior Clinical Psychologist at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Drug and Alcohol Services; Director of Clinical Programs at Western Sydney Area Drug and Alcohol Services; Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Western Sydney; and currently is the Director of Australian Centre for Addiction Research.

In 1992, he received the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Medical Board Bicentennial Travelling Fellowship Grant. He has visited several centers of excellence to advance his professional skills, including: Johns Hopkins University Department of Psychiatry (Baltimore), Harvard University Department of Psychiatry (Boston), Addiction Research Foundation (Toronto), Clark Institute of Psychiatry (Toronto), and Research Institute of Addictions (Buffalo, NY).

He has received several research grants, to-date over $5 million (including 7 from NHMRC) and is a regular grant reviewer for various funding agencies. He has produced over 35 clinical treatment manuals and clinical questionnaires and has conducted over 100 clinical workshops in Australia and overseas. [Hide detail]
