Biographical details

Vitali is also a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Health Informatics, University of New South Wales. Vitali chaired the Scientific Organising Committee of the First World Congress on Pathology Informatics, organised by HISA and API in Brisbane in 2007, and the Health Informatics Conference 2009. Vitali has over 100 publications including 2 books and 5 book chapters. His research has been widely cited internationally and he has received a range of awards including the NHMRC Public Health Training Fellowship (2007-2010), National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) Fellowship (2005-2006) and NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship (2000-2004). Dr Sintchenko was a Visiting Fellow to the Oxford Medical Informatics in 2005.

Research interests

Vitali Sintchenko is a senior medical microbiologist (FRCPA) and a health informatician (PhD UNSW, FACHI) with expertise in molecular profiling of pathogens with epidemic potential, biosurveillance and clinical decision support. He leads the program of multidisciplinary research in Infectious Disease Informatics utilising the rapid growth of microbial genomics, advances in molecular diagnostics and increasing demands for real-time biosurveillance.
