Biographical details

Chronic pain is a common condition, with one in five Australians suffering experiencing long-term pain that is serious enough to cause disability. Unfortunately this type of pain is difficult to treat and current therapeutics are ineffective in many people with many unwanted side-effects.

I am currently a Postdoctoral fellow in the Pain and Drug addiction laboratory headed by Prof. Mac Christie, and I am interested in finding new, more effective ways to treat chronic pain. My research focuses on changes that happen within the pain processing pathways in the spinal cord following the development of chronic pain. Some of these changes are potential new therapeutic targets. Recently I have been investigating how adenosine release changes during pain and how we can boost these inhibitory adenosine signals using allosteric modulator drugs. I have also been looking at changes in inhibitory glycine neurotransmission to work out how we can increase these signals to reduce pain.
