Biographical details
Dr Ryan is the Director of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Sydney's Westmead Hospital and an Honorary Associate of the Centre for Values, Ethics and the Law in Medicine, where he is the Program Director of the Mental Health and Psychiatry stream. [More...]
Research interests
Dr Ryan has a long standing interest in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Medical Ethics and the Law. His numerous publications - available here - have covered such areas as delirium, body integrity identity disorder, deliberate self-harm, risk categorisation, patient-therapist sexual contact, mental health legislation, advance directives, physician-assisted dying and euthanasia.
Teaching areas
Dr Ryan lectures in the Sydney Medical Program, in Bioethics Programs within Sydney University and in Philosophy. He is also the Chair of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry's Committee for Advanced Training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and a member of the Written Examination Committee of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
