Biographical details

Professor Garry Walter is Chair of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Sydney and is based in the Northern Clinical School. A child and adolescent psychiatrist, Garry is also Area Clinical Director of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Northern Sydney Central Coast Health; he was formerly Director of Thomas Walker Hospital ("Rivendell") and Central Sydney Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. Research interests

Professor Walter's major research interests are in mood disorders in young people, physical treatments in psychiatry, genocide and severe trauma, psychiatric stigma, medical education, use and abuse of media, publishing processes and ethics. His collaborations are with colleagues throughout Australasia, the Middle East, North America and Europe. His PhD was on the use of electroconvulsive therapy in the young.
