Research interests

Dr Brakoulias completed his PhD in 2012 where he assessed for subtypes of obsessive-compulsive disorder. He is the chief investigator in a large longitudinal assessmentof the characteristics of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder called The Nepean OCD Study. This study is continuing to recruit participants with OCD. He is particularly interested in the role of belief in obsessive-compulsive disorder and other mental disorders. During his fellowship with the Institute of Psychiatry he assessed psychotherapeutic interventions for delusions and other abberant beliefs. Teaching areas

Dr Brakoulias gives lectures and tutorials to medical students on the topic of schizophrenia. He delivers skills based sessions relating to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and side effects of psychotropic medication. Dr Brakoulias regularly gives talks to registrars, resident medical officers, general practitioners and community groups. He has presented at local and international psychiatric conferences.
