SHORT COURSES


The Discipline of Sleep Medicine offers intensive short courses that can address your specific field of interest. If you require an overall introduction to sleep medicine, are specialising within your chosen field or need CME or BRPT continuing education points courses will be available.

Sleep Scoring Bootcamp 9th & 10th April, 2015
Advanced Sleep Technology 23rd & 24th July, 2015
Fundamentals of Sleep Medicine 23rd to 27th November, 2015

Sleep Scoring Bootcamp (2 day course)

This two day course is an intensive introduction to the analysis of adult sleep studies and is designed for sleep technologists who have very little scoring experience. Technicians who are contemplating or starting the transition to sleep scoring would benefit most from this course.

The course will include lectures and extensive practical sessions to familiarize attendees with the current AASM scoring guidelines and the application these scoring rules.

Participants are assumed to be working in the sleep medicine field, have at least a rudimentary knowledge of polysomnography and basic computing knowledge.

This course can be undertaken as a standalone course or as an introduction to the Fundamentals of Sleep Medicine short course or the Masters /Graduate Diploma Courses in Sleep Medicine all offered through the University of Sydney.

The next course will be held at the University of Sydney on 9th & 10th April 2015.

Registration cost (includes lunch): $850

While we provide a certificate of attendance, this course does not qualify you to score sleep studies, as no Australian sleep scoring qualification exists.

Advanced Sleep Technology (2 day course)

This two day intensive course is designed for experienced sleep technologists who wish to improve their skills and update their knowledge in sleep technology.

Participants are assumed to be able to score sleep studies, and have at least a basic understanding of sleep medicine. This is an ideal follow up course for those who have previously attended the Fundamentals of Sleep Medicine course.

This course can be undertaken as a standalone course or as an introduction to the Fundamentals of Sleep Medicine short course or the Masters /Graduate Diploma Courses in Sleep Medicine all offered through the University of Sydney.

Topics covered include:
- Review of polysomnographic methods and tools
- Advanced EEG analysis
- Recording & reporting of movement disorders
- Implementing quality systems in the sleep laboratory
- Update on new developments in sleep

The next course will be held at the University of Sydney on 23rd & 24th July 2015.

Registration cost (includes lunch): $850

Fundamentals of Sleep Medicine Course (5 day course)

This week long course covers all aspects of sleep medicine and technology, including lectures and practical tutorial sessions on digitising, filtering and analysing physiological signals. This course can be undertaken as a standalone course or as an introduction to the Masters Degree and Diploma Courses in Sleep Medicine offered through the University of Sydney. This course represents the unification of the University of Sydney's "Sleep Medicine and Technology Course" and the Woolcock Institute's "Sleep Medicine - A Laboratory based Approach" course.

Not only are you taught about current practice in sleep science but you will be introduced to new and exciting advances for the future.

This course is an intensive introduction to the field of Sleep Medicine. It is essential for all those new to the field and recommended for those who would like to refresh their knowledge base.

In addition to full enrolment, registration for whole day and single lecture attendance is possible. The next course will be held from the 23rd to the 27th November, 2015.
