Who runs the course?
The course is run by the Discipline of Sleep Medicine, University of Sydney. Staff and presenters who have previously been associated with several different courses are now united within the Discipline.

How much does the full course cost?
The 2012 course costs are $TBA (incl. GST) for all Australian and New Zealand sleep technicians and $TBA for all overseas applicants and sleep/allied professionals
Note: this price does not include the costs of travel to or within Sydney, accommodation or meals.

Can I only single days or single lectures?
Registration for a whole day is $TBA (per day) and for a single lecture is $TBA.
Please if you would like to register for short term attendance.
Note: Attendance to practical sessions is not possible unless registered for the whole course.

How is the course structured?
The course is comprised of lectures and practical sessions conducted in small groups.

What is the latest date that I should apply?
You may apply up until the start of the course but places are limited so the earlier your application reaches the university the greater the chance of reserving a place.

You will be notified by email within 7 - 10 working days that your application has been received

How many people usually do the course?
There is an maximum of 50 places available for full enrolment. The small number ensures that practical groups are of a size that allows all students to participate and obtain the most benefit from the course. Additional people are able to attend a whole day of lectures or individual lectures so numbers in the lecture theatres may be greater than 50.

Where can I stay in Sydney when attending the course?
A list of potential places to stay can be downloaded here. This list is not exhaustive and you may prefer to locate accommodation yourself. A Google Maps search typing in "hotels University of Sydney NSW" will centre the University on the map and show all hotels in close proximity.

How do I get to the University?
The main university campus is located in Camperdown and is bounded by Parramatta Rd, City Rd, Carillon Ave, and Missenden Rd.
Buses stop at the University with the closest train stations being Central station, Newtown and Redfern (all are a 20 - 25 minutes walk from the University). It is not advised to use Redfern station after dark.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the course?
Yes, if you are enrolled in the entire course. You will be sent pre-course reading material once you have been allocated a place in the course. Although it is not essential that you read the material it is highly recommended that you do so in order to get the most out of the lectures.

Do I need to purchase anything during the course?
You will need to provide your own note paper and writing material.
Coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided during the short breaks in the day but the midday meal will not be provided every day. On several occasions there may be a meal provided - the times of these will be on the program.

When do I get the program?
You will be given the full program when you arrive for the first day of the course.

Is there an exam?
Yes, there is an exam but it can be performed on-line in the weeks after the course has finished. Participation in the exam is entirely voluntary.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes, you get a certificate of attendance but only if you are participating in the entire course. You will be mailed a certificate in the weeks after the course has finished.

Can my relationship with the Discipline of Sleep Medicine continue after the course?
Yes, if you are affilated with the University of Sydney or you choose to enrol in the Postgraduate Courses.

Can I get credit towards a postgraduate degree for attending this course?
No. The Fundamentals of Sleep Medicine Course will provide the basics of the Postgraduate degree courses but no official credit towards the degrees is available. Depending on individual work experience you may receive credit but this is processed on a case by case basis.
