The Medical Program Admissions Review

Following the success of the Medical Program Curriculum Review, the Dean, Professor Bruce Robinson, commissioned a review of the Medical Program admissions policy.

This review was undertaken by Emeritus Professor Kerry Goulston (formerly Head and Associate Dean of the Northern Clinical School) and Emeritus Professor Kim Oates (formerly Douglas Burrows Professor of Paediatrics and Chief Executive of the Children's Hospital at Westmead).

Review Progress - Complete

This project commenced early October 2007.

From the outset until early January 2008 submissions were sought from members of Faculty, alumni, students, and members of Associations and Royal Colleges. Over 120 submissions were received.

Preliminary proposals were presented to Faculty in February 2008. Feedback was sought and further discussions took place during the Faculty meeting at the end of March 2008. As part of the review the Faculty decided to form working parties to look at:

1. GPA, GAMSAT and MMI
2. Provisional School Entry
3. Informed decision making
4. Research into the Admission Process

The Working Party recommendations were discussed during the Faculty meetings in November and December 2008. Faculty decisions with regards to the recommendations proposed can be found from Page 60 of the Admissions Review report, which is now publicly available and can be downloaded below.

Limited hard copies of the review report will be available at the end of March 2009, but it is recommended that you download your own copy. If, however, you would like to request a copy or have any other comments, please contact Rebecca Rock via rrock@med.usyd.edu.au
