The University of Sydney School of Medicine is the largest provider of postgraduate vocational coursework for clinicians in Australasia. We offer a wide range of high quality professional development courses to help you stay up to date, and develop and broaden your skills and knowledge. Professional colleges accredit some of our courses for training and CME purposes.

Our teachers are experts in their field and the coursework is provided online using the latest user-friendly systems including access via mobile devices. Some courses have a face-to-face workshop and these are held in state of the art facilities on campus or in one of our teaching hospitals.

The length and complexity of the courses vary from one-day overviews or workshops to a full unit of study (non-degree study) that runs over a semester of 13 weeks duration (see Study Dates).

There are two ways to complete a single unit of study:

  • Direct registration
  • No formal examinations
  • No credit towards a University of Sydney degree
  • Certificate of completion but does not appear on academic transcript
  • Short course fee (varies per individual unit)
  • Formal University enrolment
  • Assessment and examination tasks must be completed
  • Credit may be granted towards relevant University of Sydney degree
  • Results appear on academic transcript
  • Fee charged at pro-rata rate of relevant full-time degree fee
