Research interests
Leigh Delbridge is Professor and Head of the Discipline of Surgery at the University of Sydney. He heads the University of Sydney Endocrine Surgical Unit which is the largest such unit in Australia. His clinical practice is now confined entirely to thyroid and parathyroid surgery, perfoming over 500 such procedures each year. A major clinical interest is minimally invasive parathyroidectomy and minimally invasive diagnostic thyroid surgery. His research interests include the development of techniques for minimally invasive endocrine surgery, epidemiological studies in relation to thyroid and parathyroid disease, collaborative studies on the molecular genetics of thyroid and parathyroid tumourogenesis, and collaborative studies on parathyroid hormone physiology. He is the immediate Past President of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and President-Elect of the Surgical Research Society of Australia.
