Associate Professor Richard Hillman

Richard Hillman (BSc MD FRCP FAChSHM) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Sydney and holds a Senior Staff Specialist post at Westmead Hospital. He also holds posts at St Vincent’s Hospital and the National Centre for HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research (NCHECR) at the University of New South Wales.

He initially trained as a general physician in Edinburgh, Scotland and developed an interest in sexually transmitted infections and HIV whilst working in London. During this time, he spent 5 years in full-time research and was awarded a doctorate for his work in the molecular epidemiology of HPV.

After a period of clinical work in HIV and STI Medicine in London and Scotland, Richard came to Sydney in 2001.

He currently runs the University of Sydney's Masters programs in STDs and HIV, is Chief Investigator on a number of current trials, serves as President Elect of the Chapter of Sexual Health Physicians, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and is joint editor of the journal “Sexual Health”. His main research interests are Human Papillomavirus infections and anal neoplasia, having published over 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
