POSTGRADUATE COURSEWORK STUDIES

WSSHC offers a number of postgraduate coursework programs that can accommodate students from diverse backgrounds, providing a range of outcomes depending on student’s educational and professional needs.

To qualify for the coursework only degrees, students must complete coursework and clinical or laboratory assignments equivalent to 36 credit points (cp) to qualify for the award of the
Graduate Diploma in HIV, STIs and Sexual Health or 48 credit points to qualify for the Masters of HIV/STIs & Sexual Health in one of the following streams:

To qualify for the Master of HIV, STI’s and Sexual Health / Master of Philosophy double degree, participants must, in addition to the Masters Coursework, submit a research thesis.

Graduate Diploma in HIV, STIs & Sexual Health (GradDipHSSH)

The Graduate Diploma in HIV, STIs & Sexual Health offers students the chance to develop a sound basis of knowledge in clinical, laboratory, public health and behavioural aspects of sexual health. While specialising in the infectious disease aspects of sexual health the course is of particular benefit to those wishing to improve their scientific understanding of the discipline. Further, the Graduate Diploma in HIV, STIs & Sexual Health is embedded within the Master of HIV, STIs & Sexual Health and as such you may choose to as a pathway into a master’s degree in this discipline (subject to meeting admission requirements.)

Core units of study provide professionals with foundational competence in medicine, nursing, laboratory, counseling and public health streams. An additional wide range of electives creates opportunities for candidates to explore related areas of interest. Furthermore, the cross-professional structure encourages candidates to develop effective multidisciplinary collaborative approaches and prepares them for work in a wide variety of healthcare settings.

All units of study are founded on evidence-based practice and focus strongly on critical review of recent literature.for those in a wide range of sexual health related professions.

Master’s in Sexual Health (MHSSH)

WSHHS offers postgraduate masters degrees as either a coursework-only masters degree or as a double degree with the coursework-only master's degree followed by a research master's degree.

The Master of HIV, STIs & Sexual Health provides a comprehensive, evidence-based, inter-professional and research-intensive learning experience that meets the needs of Australian and international students working in a range of disciplines related to HIV, STIs and Sexual Health. It also creates opportunities to seamlessly transition to research candidature.

Core units of study provide professionals with foundational competence in medicine, nursing, laboratory, counseling and public health streams. Master’s in Sexual Health / Master’s of Philosophy (MHSSH/MPhil)

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is aimed at those who intend to pursue careers research within the field of Sexual Health or who wish to upgrade their qualifications to give them a competitive edge in their employment by demonstrating superior ability and some research experience. It may also be used as a stepping stone to commencing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
