Want to get involved?

From time to time, AMRC offers the opportunity for professional and academic development through on-the-job experience and exposure to issues relating to the development of the Mekong Region. Students can get involved for voluntary work experience on specific tasks, or internships/exchanges may be arranged for researchers or advocacy workers from other institutions as appropriate.

Postgraduate students, scholars and other members of the community are also welcome to present their research at our fortnightly Southeast Asian seminars on a one-off basis. Contact us if you are interested in presenting at one of our seminars.

Internship program

Objective

The key objective is to offer qualified, motivated people with an interest in the social and ecological impacts of development in the Mekong Region the opportunity to work closely with AMRC director, staff and postgraduate students.

The internship program, however, is designed to be an exchange. On one hand it is intended to provide the intern with the opportunity to conduct research, publish papers, present workshops and to network with academics and others with an interest in the region. On the other hand the program will enrich the AMRC through linkage with the organisation from which the intern originated, access to research findings of the intern and other contributions such as the publication of an AMRC working paper and presentation at a Southeast Asian seminar.

Program

The program is open to advocacy workers and/or researchers based in the Mekong Region and elsewhere from all relevant academic backgrounds (e.g. geography, anthropology, Asian studies, etc.). Interns must cover their own costs of travel and living expenses. AMRC provides office resources only.

To apply for the AMRC Internship Program individuals are required to discuss their interest with the Director and to complete and submit an application outlining their areas of interest, work experiences and accomplishments.

Interns are treated as staff members with specific responsibilities. Supervision will be by the Director and/or an AMRC Staff with relevant experience.

Internship assignments vary in length according to the availability and requirements of the intern, as well as the needs of AMRC. Assignments may vary from 3 to 9 months. Interns are requested to work between 8 and 20 hours per week.
