Trina finished her Bachelor and Master of Science in Geography in the University of the Philippines-Diliman. She further honed her training in geography by working in various research institutions focusing on community based natural resource management and indigenous peoples in the Philippines. She later on worked with USAID’s Philippine Environment Governance (EcoGov) a technical assistance project that aims to improve local environmental governance in forest, coastal and urban environments by enhancing capability of local government units. She supported the spatial analyses needs of the project team and provided assistance and training in spatial planning using geographic information science to local government staff. Trina is also a part-time lecturer at the Department of Geography, University of the Philippines-Diliman.
She is a recipient of the Australian Development Scholarship and commenced her studies in at the School of Geosciences, University of Sydney in July 2011. Her research looks into water scarcity in rural areas within the context of integrated water resource management in Agusan Basin in the Southern Philippines.
