Bone Plaques

This fragmentary object, featuring a design in fine low relief, is carved from a piece of bone. It features a female head with a vegetal scroll. Such plaques may have been used as decorative inlay on furniture, a box, or some other object.
It was found at Pella in Tomb 39A and dates to the late Roman period, AD 3rd-4th century.
