Historic photograph collection
The Historic photograph collection (HPC) is a collection of photographs documenting life in Australia and the Pacific region from the late 1840s to the 1960s. The collection includes portraits, landscape views and town scenes, family photograph collections, travel albums, and ethnographic collections. It reflects the work of both commercial and amateur photographers. The work of the University can be seen in the teaching lantern slide collections, ranging from anthropology to geology, chemistry to music.
Predominantly black and white, this collection includes a wide range of photographic formats: daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, negatives, photographic prints, lantern slides, and transparencies. Much of the collection is in glass negative format.
A small collection of historic photographic equipment is held, representative of the changing technology of photography.
