Modernist art walking tour

The Student

Explore the publicly accessible modernist art collections of the Camperdown campus of the University of Sydney in an hour long tour with an expert guide.

From Tom Bass’ 1953 monumental sculpture The Student with its demonstration of internal reflection and study while turning its back on the world outside the gates of the university, through to recent paintings displayed in the Law School Building, this walking tour takes you on a journey through the Australian modernist art displayed in the public areas of the University of Sydney. Works by artists such as Harry Wedge, Elwyn (Jack) Lynn and Michael Johnson will be viewed as the tour explores the University’s relationship with Australian art over the past five decades. A visit to the current University of Sydney Art Gallery exhibition is also possible.

Group tours take about one hour to complete. Tours can be booked for Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), minimum numbers apply. Bookings are essential, and are best made at least a week in advance.
