David Miller
David Miller AM (Piano/Accompaniment), BA(Hons) LMus
David Miller studied in Australia (Max Olding and Alexander Sverjensky) and the United Kingdom (Paul Hamburger) and has been described as the "role model of Australian accompanists". David was appointed as a member of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday 1995 Honours List for his service to music. He has been on staff at Sydney Conservatorium of Music since 1980 and in 1995 was appointed the first chair of the Ensemble Studies Unit with responsibility for Chamber Music and Keyboard Accompaniment tuition and administration throughout the institution. David regularly conducts master classes and lectures for universities, conservatoriums, music organisations and music conferences in Australia and Asia.

Jeanell Carrigan studied at the Sydney and Queensland Conservatories and then in Europe with Nancy Salas, Leah Horwitz, Pamela Page, Alfons Kontarsky and Karl Engel. As a professional musician she has been involved in many educational and performance based activities.
As a teacher she has experience at all levels - primary, secondary and tertiary, in the class and lecture room situation and on a one-to-one basis. She has held positions of employment at the Hochschulen für Musik in Stuttgart and Munich, the Universities of Queensland and Melbourne and the Queensland and Sydney Conservatories of Music. She is constantly in demand as an examiner and adjudicator and is presently a Lecturer in Ensemble Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Jeanell has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist in Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and throughout Australia, and has recorded for the Bavarian Radio Corporation, the ABC and for regional stations in Australia on many occasions. As a member of the Novalis Quartet, Trio Novalis and Richter/Carrigan Duo she performs regularly for Musica Viva and other concert organisations.
She completed a Doctor of Creative Arts, from the University of Wollongong, in the area of Australian post-1970 solo piano repertoire and in May, 2009 released her ninth solo compact disc of Australian piano music. Her publications include an annotated guide to Australian solo piano music presently available in its sixth edition and several teaching kits related to the performance of Australian piano music. She was the editorial consultant for the AMEB’s publication of Australian Piano Music (preliminary to 4th grade).

Phillip Shovk
Phillip Shovk (Piano), MA Moscow
Phillip Shovk is considered to be one of Australia's foremost concert pianists, chamber musicians, accompanists and teachers. After studying at the Sydney Conservatorium High School with George Humphrey and graduating with the Frank Hutchens Prize for being the most promising performer of his year he continued his studies at the Moscow State Conservatory with Professor Valery Kastelsky ( himself a student of Heinrich Neuhaus) graduating as a Master of Fine Arts.
In 1987 he became a Laureate at the Vianni di Motta competition in Lisbon and in 1988 at the Sydney International Competition, where he was awarded the Hephzibah Menuhin Prize and the Best Australian Pianist Prize. He was awarded a Best Accompanist prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1994.
He has performed to great acclaim in Russia, Georgia, Portugal, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Singapore, New Zealand and China, where he has been involved in recording traditional Chinese music.
Phillip Shovk has also adjudicated at many of Australia's leading competitions including the Sydney International Piano Competition, Sydney Eisteddfod, Yamaha Youth Competition, Hephzibah Menuhin Competition and many others.
He is currently teaching at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Associate Lecturer

David Howie
David Howie (Piano/Accompaniment), BMus GradDipMus(Acc)
David studied piano under Sonya Hanke and Gordon Watson at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating with a Bachelor of Music in 1982. He then specialized in Accompaniment, studying with David Miller in Sydney and Paul Hamburger in London, at the Royal Academy of Music.
He was Head of Keyboard Studies at Kings College in Somerset, England for four years before returning to Australia where he has been a member of the Accompaniment Department since 1992 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
He has performed throughout England, Europe, America and Australia, has given numerous live broadcasts and studio recordings for the B.B.C, Radio Luxembourg, A.B.C. television and radio and 2MBS FM. Claude Delangle, Stanley Drucker, Kyle Horsch, Gordon Hunt, Peter Jenkins, Jenny Kaye, Kamahl, Dominica Matthews, Otis Murphy, Richard Sherman, David Wakeham, Mark Walton and Asmira Woodward –Page, are some of the many wonderful artists from Australia and internationally that he has had the pleasure to perform with.
He leads a hectic, but enjoyable life fulfilling his role at the Conservatorium, teaching piano and accompaniment, as well as performing widely as an associate artist and chamber musician. He loves cooking, sailing, playing and coaching soccer and his most treasured time is that spent with his wife and three boys…… and the dog!
