Sydney Conservatorium of Music from the forecourt

Visitor tours

Trained volunteer guides lead guided tours of The Con from January to December each year, from Monday to Friday.

The tours cover the history of the establishment of the music school – at the time of the 1st World War, the heritage of the 1817 governor’s stables building which was commissioned and converted into the Conservatorium of Music in 1915, plus a guided tour through the adjacent state-of-the-art music learning facility – opened in 2000. You will also gain an insight into how the music learning is delivered at The Con.

We welcome visitors from schools, social groups, retirement villages, visitors to Sydney and more.

Tours often include a free lunchtime concert in the unique Verbrugghen Hall.

The Con has appropriate disability access to all areas and there is also a cafe with indoor and outdoor facilities that can be included in your tour.

Guided group tours are held daily Monday to Friday AM and PM.

Cost for adults: $10

School tours

ALL children and school tours are free-of-charge for any age group.

School tours can be built around a free lunchtime concert on Wednesdays at 1pm throughout school terms.

Children with a disability can easily enjoy their visit to The Con.
A student cafe with indoor and outdoor facilities is accessible for school visitors.

The volunteer tour guides are trained in ‘interpretation guiding methodology’ to enable visitors to enjoy an interactive learning experience. Worksheets can be provided – set for different school grades to enhance their visitor experience.
