Visitor tours

Is that a castle over there?
Join us at The Con and take a guided tour with one of our knowledgeable volunteer guides.
Discover why – in 1915 Premier William Holman proclaimed that the disused governor’s horse stables (built in 1817) would be renovated and turned into a music conservatorium ‘to serve the people of Sydney’.
Explore the whole site – learn the Aboriginal history of the area, be overwhelmed by the grand Verbrugghen Hall converted from the interior parade ground of the stables building, admire the convict bricks and peer inside the towers to visualise where the stables staff bunked down.
By the year 2000 music learning at The Con was exploding and a state-of-the art music school was completed. The discrete architectural simplicity of this elegant building is largely underground. Nestled beneath the Royal Botanic Gardens and adjacent to the stables, this massive world-class music school provides classical and contemporary study for a world-wide group of students.
‘On tour’ you can enjoy history and heritage, architecture, pre history, the findings from an archaeological site dig – and combine all of these tactile, creative experiences with music –for example a free lunchtime concert.
GUIDED GROUP TOURS are held daily Monday to Friday AM and PM.
