School groups
The Sydney Conservatorium of Music welcomes children as visitors from primary and secondary schools.
The tour content covers the history: the establishment of The Con in 1915 as a place for music scholarship; heritage: the heritage building – the original government house horse stables built in 1815, and architecture: the integration of the original building with the state-of-the art below-ground new venue – opened in 2000 incorporating outstanding facilities for music learning.
The tours are delivered in an interpretive guiding style which is interactive with the students. Work sheets are also available for the students to have a more stimulating learning / visitor experience.

- School tours are free-of-charge
- Bookings are essential and you can book tours on 9351 1382 during business hours
- The tours are conducted from Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4pm
- The number of persons in each tour group is 15 – however several tours can take place simultaneously
- Public Liability Insurance: The Con has appropriate public liability coverage
- Easy drop-off in front of The Con is available for buses. There is no bus parking near the site.
- Cafe: There is a cafe in the front of the building where sandwiches, snacks and drinks can be purchased and downstairs in the cafe – hot meals are served in a cafeteria style environment
- Combine your visit with a free concert: Each Wednesday in school term weeks – there is a concert in the main hall – the Verbrugghen Hall. The concert commences at 1pm and finishes at 2pm. Tours can be planned to take place prior to the concert or at the completion of the concert
- Disabled access: The Con provides facilities for disabled visitors
