Volunteers

The generous contribution of volunteers supports The Con to achieve its wide-ranging goal to be the centre of excellence in music making.
Volunteers are actively engaged in a number of roles: front-of-house ambassadors support the Con's extensive year long concert program, they are the hosts for the calendar of special events arranged for the Friends of The Con program, they support the music library, guide visitors through the magnificent old and contemporary buildings where state of the art music facilities support the students and more.
The volunteer program is a vital part of The Con's day-to-day activities and volunteers are recognised as the vital link back into the wider community.
In exchange for their valued contribution, volunteers are afforded a variety of opportunities to attend concerts and other music making activities.

Volunteer News
The Con Volunteers Christmas celebration this year was a High Tea party held in the Music Cafe. The Dean, Professor Kim Walker, congratulated the Volunteers Manager, Margaret Helman and thanked the Volunteers most warmly for their efforts.
Professor Walker announced that in the two years since the new Volunteers program was launched, they have given over 8,000 hours of service, which equates to more than four years of full-time work. “This is a huge contribution to the work of the Conservatorium and is very much appreciated by staff and students.”
Over the last two years the roles and responsibilities of the Volunteers have expanded widely. The greatest achievement has been the development of a guided tours program for visitors. Several Volunteers have studied widely for their new role as Con Tour Guides and they are now conducting historical, heritage and music education tours for a variety of community groups.
This program has been enthusiastically received by the wider community and tours are booked through to September 2012.
The cumulative effect of the Volunteers’ role as ambassadors for The Con has been enormous, fostering engagement with the wider Sydney and NSW community. SCM staff members appreciate the Volunteers, both as individuals and for their friendly support and assistance with a wide range of tasks.
