Entry Requirements

  1. Information on how to enter forms part of the Conditions of Entry into the 2011 Fairweather Family Prize for Student Composer (‘Competition’). Entry into the Competition and shall be deemed to be an acceptance of these Conditions of Entry.
  2. Composers must be currently enrolled at an Australian tertiary institution or secondary school at the time of entry.
  3. A non-refundable entry fee of $50.00 (fifty dollars) must accompany each composition entry. Cheques or money orders to be made out to The Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney.
  4. The submitted work must not have been previously performed, with the exception of university - sanctioned student composer concerts.
  5. A score must be submitted in hardcopy, or electronically sent by email in PDF. The materials may be handwritten or computer notated but should be at the highest professional standards of presentation. If sending hardcopies, 3 copies of the score are to be included.
  6. An audio recording may accompany the score. It may be a recording of real instruments or a MIDI version. The limitations of computer playback will be well understood by the judging panel.
  7. There is no minimum composition length, but the maximum length is 8 minutes. Works longer than 8 minutes will be disqualified.
  8. The selected entry will receive a cash prize of $2,000.00 (two thousand dollars)
  9. The World Premiere performance of the selected composition will take place in 2012.
  10. The venue will be in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music
  11. The work will be recorded by the Sydney Conservatorium of Music
  12. A judging panel will be appointed by the organizers, comprising of Sydney Conservatorium of Music staff and independent adjudicators. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence shall be entered into at any stage regarding any decision or the judging process.
  13. The competition organizers reserve the right not to award the prize.
  14. Entries will not be accepted after Friday 2 December 2011.
