No, you must be a current student.
I am a postgraduate student and am waiting upon the results of my thesis examination. Am I eligible to enter?
You need to have a current student card, for this year. If you have a student card and you haven’t yet graduated, you are eligible.
Can I use a quote from The Rite of Spring in my piece?
You can do this if you have applied for, and obtained, copyright permission from the publishers of this work, Boosey and Hawkes. Otherwise the answer is no, since Stravinsky died in 1971 and his music does not enter the public domain until 2041 under Australian copyright law.
Can I use a quote from The Marriage of Figaro in my piece?
Yes, because it is more than 70 years after the death of Mozart and his music is in the public domain. However, you should seek independent legal advice on any quotes and good practice dictates that you should acknowledge such sources on the score and in the programme notes.
Is there any limitation on style or genre?
Any style or genre is welcomed.
My piece has been previously performed at a concert in the local church hall by my sister and her boyfriend. May I enter this piece?
No. Works may not have been previously performed unless as part of an official university-sanctioned composer concert.
I am studying performance rather than composition at university. Am I eligible to enter?
Yes.
I am a science student, not a music student. Am I eligible to enter?
Yes.
Can I submit my work as a Sibelius or Finale or Logic or Cubase file
No. You may only submit 3 x hard copies of score or PDF.
