General Terms

  1. By entering the competition, you warrant that the work submitted is your original work and the submitted work does not infringe on the copyright or intellectual property rights of any person or publisher in any way. You also authorise the Organisers to reproduce the composition for any purpose, including those connected with reviewing the composition in order to determine the winner.
  2. All valid entries received by Friday 2 December 2011 will be individually judged by the judging panel. Submissions not received by Friday 2 December 2011 will not be judged.
  3. The organizers will not be responsible for submissions received after this date due to mail failures, or for lost, late, stolen, damaged or misdirected entries.
  4. An entry fee of A$50 (non-refundable - cheque or money order in the name of: Sydney Conservatorium of Music, The University of Sydney) is to be submitted with the other materials required for entry to the competition.
  5. Valid entries will be judged according to the overall quality of the composition, including musical composition, originality and creativity. The prize will be awarded to the entrant who the judges deem submit the best entry. This is a competition based on skill and chance plays no part in determining the winner.
  6. A score must be submitted in hardcopy, or electronically sent by email in PDF format. The materials may be handwritten or computer notated but should be at the highest professional standards of presentation. If sending hardcopies, 3 copies of the score are to be included.
  7. By entering the Competition, you authorise the reproduction of your composition (including the score and all associated materials submitted), including any part thereof, without attribution. Any entrant may be required to fill in a copyright release consent form allowing the Organisers to use the Composition.
  8. Applicants who have previously been commissioned for the 101 Compositions for 100 Years project, either through the composition competition or through direct commission, are not eligible to enter the composition competition.
  9. There is a $2,000.00 (two thousand dollars) prize for the winning entry.
  10. The Organisers retain the right to substitute the prizes with prizes of equal or greater value.
  11. The winner will be decided and notified by 27 January 2012.
  12. The Organisers’ decision is final, and no
    correspondence will be entered into, including in the event
    of a dispute.
  13. The Organisers reserve the right to validate and check the authenticity of entries and enrolment details and to disqualify any entrant for tampering with the entry process.
  14. If for any reason this Competition is not capable of running as planned, the Organisers reserve the right to modify the terms of the Competition including the prizes and these Conditions of Entry.
  15. Any tax liability arising as a result of accepting any prize is the responsibility of the winner.
  16. The Organisers will not be liable for any injury, loss or damage of any nature whatsoever (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) which is suffered or sustained as a result of or in connection with receiving, taking or using any prize except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law. All entrants release and indemnify the Organisers from any liability which may arise out of the Organiser’s use or publication of their Composition.
  17. All claims and entries become the property of the Organisers. The Organisers may use personal information in accordance with its privacy policy available at its website, sydney.edu.au.
    An entrant may access and correct any personal information held by the Organisers, upon request to the University.
  18. The Organisers are: The University of Sydney (body corporate under the University of Sydney Act 1989, ABN 15 211 513 464 of Camperdown in the State of New South Wales).
