Conservatorium Open Day – in five easy steps
Step 1: Get one-on-one advice
Do you need information about audition requirements, degrees or other aspects of studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney? Then this is your opportunity to talk directly with faculty representatives and admissions advisers who will be on hand to personally answer your questions.
Academic staff available 11am – 2pm; admissions staff available all day
Step 2: Take in a lecture or masterclass
Throughout the day we're running a program of activities that include lectures and masterclasses covering performance areas of piano, strings, jazz, brass, woodwind, voice/opera, percussion and early music; as well as composition, musicology, music education and careers in music.
Step 3: Take in a performance
The Music Café will be the performance hub throughout the day with the Jazz Hour broadcast live on Fine Music 102.5 12–1pm. Performances include saxophone orchestra, guitar ensemble, jazz, Con Tango and Judy Bailey’s Jazz Connection with string ensemble.
Step 4: Don’t just watch, participate!
Bring your instrument! This is your opportunity to be a SCM student and play in one of our performance ensembles. Brass players can join a section of the SCM Brass Ensemble; orchestral and voice musicians can rehearse and perform Vivaldi’s Gloria in Verbrugghen Hall; you can also perform as part of the Balinese Gamelan ensemble. Scores and parts will be available for download shortly.
Step 5: Soak up the atmosphere
In addition to all these activities, the Music Café will be serving food, coffee and tea through the day. So relax, hang out with friends – or make new ones – and get a glimpse into your life as a Sydney Conservatorium of Music student!
