Sharing our passion for ideas with Sydney Writers' Festival

1 March 2017

Our Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences will be a Major Partner of Sydney Writers' Festival again in 2017.

There are a number of volunteering opportunities at Sydney Writers' Festival.

Our Media Hub is based at the festival's home in Walsh Bay, where students interview authors and review events.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is thrilled to announce they will be a Major Partner of Sydney Writers’ Festival for 2017.

Sydney Writers’ Festival is one of Sydney’s premier cultural events, which will be igniting the stages of Walsh Bay from May 22-28.

This continues the University of Sydney’s ongoing collaboration with this festival of writing and ideas, in a partnership now in its sixth year.

Past highlights of our festival involvement include co-sponsoring dynamic international authors to speak at the University such as chief literary critic for The New Yorker James Wood, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Adam Johnson, and esteemed British philosopher Julian Baggini, as well as our academics and alumni taking part in events across the festival program.

We are also very proud of having co-sponsored the festival’s Curiosity Lecture Series and having students involved in our successful Media Interns Hub at the festival, which sees our students interviewing authors, reviewing festival events, and documenting the festival action through news stories and social media.

Students share festival highlights

"Despite rumour, the book – like the rich literary cultures that books give rise to – is not dead,” said Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Professor Annamarie Jagose.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with the Sydney Writers' Festival and its enrichment of the cultural life of the city."

As a University partner, students of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences are invited to apply for three unique internship opportunities within the Sydney Writers’ Festival team.

Through these internships, students will have the opportunity to gain experience in the areas of publicity, events management and sponsorships. Further details are available here.

The Sydney Writers’ Festival is set to announce their official program for 2017 at a launch event on April 6. Keep an eye on our micro-site for full details of our festival involvement, student internship opportunities and special offers.
